Digital transformation for a more connected, safe and sustainable city, ready for the future.

A mid-sized city in the Colombian Caribbean, recognized as a World Heritage Site, began a digital transformation to strengthen public safety, connectivity, environmental management and the experience of residents and visitors, while preserving its historical and cultural identity.
The Challenge
Technology at the service of the territory
The challenge was to integrate technology and digital infrastructure in a territory with high historical and cultural value, expanding access to connectivity and strengthening the institutional capacity to manage security, environmental risks and community services.
The solution had to go beyond installing technology: it had to connect people, information, and institutions to generate a real impact on the territory.
An Integrated Solution for a Connected Territory
The transformation was built on several technological and social components that work together.

01.
Connectivity and Digital Infrastructure
Deployment of fiber optic networks, wireless connectivity, community internet and supporting power infrastructure. The solution reached population coverage of nearly 92.5%, connecting thousands of homes and enabling 15 high-coverage free Wi-Fi zones.

02.
Public Safety and Smart Video Surveillance
More than 22 surveillance points integrated into the municipal CCTV system, with fixed and dome cameras, public address and license plate recognition. The infrastructure enables 24/7 monitoring and supports local authorities' operations.

03.
Smart Tourism
6 interactive digital kiosks with touch screens, solar power and their own connectivity, complemented by a bilingual mobile app with tourism and heritage information, routes, events and cultural content.

04.
Autonomous Drone
Ten smart murals incorporate augmented reality to expand the historical and cultural information available to citizens and visitors through the mobile application.

05.
Environmental Sensors and Risk Management
An IoT sensor network allows monitoring of air and water quality variables, as well as the level of the territory's main body of water, generating information and alerts to strengthen risk prevention and management.

06.
Heritage + Augmented Reality
An autonomous flying drone expands territorial surveillance and monitoring capabilities, supporting flood management, security, inspection, and emergency response.

07.
Smart Monitoring Center
The information generated by cameras, sensors, and drones converges on a centralized IoT platform and a municipal monitoring center equipped to visualize, analyze, and manage the data in real time.

08.
Digital Literacy and Adoption
The technological transformation was accompanied by digital literacy processes, community training and technological learning spaces for children and young people, in addition to the modernization of the public library.
